How is BOPP better than traditional payment methods, e.g. debit and credit cards?
We don't think BOPP is the perfect payment method for all situations, but we do think it is the best in certain situations.
The first major advantage over other payment methods is accessibility. Anyone with a UK bank account can use BOPP, there is no need to sign up to complicated payment terms often associated with accepting debit/credit cards. Also BOPP is significantly cheaper than accepting debit/credit cars as a method of payment.
For payers there is also a significant advantage. Debit/Credit cards are inherently insecure, meaning that if a malicious third-party were to acquire the details on your debit/credit card they are able to spend online using your account. This is not possible with BOPP. With BOPP the payee sends their request for payment to the payer using the security of BOPP, and the payer validates these details directly in the safety and security of their own bank application. At no point are the log-in details exposed to anyone (including BOPP) and so it is impossible for a third-party to take money from the payers account.
Persons paying using BOPP can also take satisfaction that they are saving organisations money that would otherwise typically go to large financial services firms.
